Farm to table
So you would like to grow your own food? Many people dream of eating vegetables straight from their garden, but getting started can feel overwhelming. Where do you begin? What tools do you really need? How do you prepare the soil, and what happens when the weather doesn’t play along? Our “Farm to Table” workshop is designed to guide you through these questions in a practical, inspiring, and hands-on way.
We made this journey ourselves. When we started at Starbase18, we faced poor soil, unpredictable weather, and plenty of trial and error. Over time, we discovered which crops thrive, how to improve soil health, and what simple techniques make the biggest difference. In this workshop, we share that experience with you. Not from books or theory, but from the daily reality of growing, harvesting, and enjoying food on the table.
Participants will learn the essential do’s and don’ts of starting a food garden. We will cover soil preparation, composting, choosing seeds, planting strategies, and basic maintenance. You’ll also gain insights into how to adapt to changing weather patterns and shifting seasons, something every grower needs to face today. Expect to get your hands dirty, try out tools, and walk away with knowledge you can apply immediately, even if you only have a balcony or small plot of land.
But growing food is not just about techniques. It’s about reconnecting with the natural rhythms of life, experiencing the satisfaction of harvesting something you nurtured, and sharing it with family and friends. We believe that the journey from farm to table should be both joyful and practical. That’s why we combine guidance with real-life demonstrations, ensuring you leave with the confidence to start your own garden, step by step.
Whether you’re completely new to gardening or you’ve already tried and want to improve, this workshop gives you a grounded introduction. Together, we’ll explore what works, what to avoid, and how to build resilience in your garden for the future. Most importantly, we’ll show you that growing your own food is not only possible but it’s also deeply rewarding and can become a natural part of your lifestyle.
