Repair café project
We’re planning to launch a monthly repair café, inviting local engineers and residents to fix broken appliances together. Using the maker incubator’s tools, it aims to reduce waste and create a shared space where knowledge and stories are exchanged across generations.
Repair café project
Starting from nothing, the idea of the repair café is to bring life and community spirit into our maker incubator. By hosting a monthly event, we hope to gather local engineers, hobbyists, and anyone curious to learn. Broken household appliances and everyday objects get a second life instead of ending up in landfill.
The café isn’t just about repairs: it’s about people meeting, exchanging skills, and sharing ideas. Young engineers can watch and learn from older ones with decades of practical know-how, while older craftsmen can discover new tools or digital methods. This mix keeps traditional repair skills alive and relevant, while encouraging new approaches.
At this stage, the repair café is still a concept. The plan is to trial it monthly, and if there’s enough local enthusiasm, increase the frequency. We also hope to get the local government involved, both for promotional support and possibly funding materials, spare parts, or refreshments.
Beyond fixing things, the repair café can become an informal town square: a place where locals and visitors catch up, share local news, brainstorm new projects, or simply enjoy being part of something positive and practical. Through this, we hope to create a habit of repair, reduce waste, and strengthen community ties around our eco-tourism hub.
